Site Visit at Koradi Thermal Power Plant By Civil Engineering Students

As a part of Curriculum of RTM Nagpur University, a site visit is organized at Cooling Tower of Koradi Thermal Power Plant on 08/03/2016 by the Civil Engineering students of ITMCOE ,Kamptee. During the visit students found there were three cooling tower, two of them were fully constructed. One cooling tower was operating and other one was half operating.

Koradi Thermal Power Station (KTPS) is located at Koradi near Nagpur, Maharashtra. The power plant is one of the four major power plants in Vidarbha – a power surplus region of India. The power station began operations in 1974 and is one of the nine active power stations operated by Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (Mahagenco), a subsidiary of Government of Maharashtra owned Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB).The plant operates 8 units and has a total power generation capacity of 1700 MW A proposed 440 kilovolt high power transmission line from Koradi to Bhusawal would join Nagpur with Mumbai. A cooling tower is a heat rejection device which rejects waste heat to the atmosphere through the cooling of a water stream to a lower temperature. Cooling towers may either use the evaporation of water to remove process heat and cool the working fluid to near the wet-bulb air temperature or, in the case of closed circuit dry cooling towers, rely solely on air to cool the working fluid to near the dry-bulb air temperature. There were three cooling tower, two of them were fully constructed. One cooling tower was operating and other one was half operating.

We also visited to the G+6 storey building constructed near it to provide accommodation to the engineers working at the plan All students of Civil Engineering students are enthuastics during the visit.
